SEL Wednesdays - Second Step Information

Hello RCMS families! For the past four weeks, our students have been participating in SEL Wednesdays where teachers and students are having conversations about how to recognize and handle bullying, spread kindness, and relationship building. Please know that norms are being established at the beginning of every session about confidentiality and removing any personal identifying information when having an open discussion. Additionally, in order to stay transparent, we are posting all student handouts and resources available directly from Second Step so conversations can continue at home.

Committee for Children has put together an official response to alleviate any concerns around the program and the topics students would be covering in their Second Step lessons:

“Our Second Step programs do not have the foundational underpinnings associated with Critical Race Theory. As an organization, our mission is to foster the safety and well-being of every child through social-emotional learning and development. Our research-based programs are designed to help improve the social-emotional competence of children and youth.“
